Summer is an active time of year. Kids are out of school. It’s also a popular time to take vacation days. There’s just something special about the season. Overall, people seem more motivated and interested in participating in activities and events. So, why not help your community members by offering up a number of fun festivities from the clubhouse? If you’re trying to come up with a few ideas, don’t go anywhere. We have some great suggestions for you below.
Have A Food-Focused Event
Food has a way of bringing everyone together, so why not throw a party that is all about food. A BBQ is always a winner, just remember to have a meat-free option for vegans and vegetarians. You can also consider having a tasting event where the community members get to come in and try various foods. This might be provided and run by the HOA involving local restaurants, or if the budget is tight, it can be a potluck. In fact, community members can bring their recipes with them to share with anyone who loves their dish. Another idea you can consider is hosting a once-a-week “coffee shop” where you offer pastries, coffees, and teas. This is a great way to help encourage community members to just come in a chat with one another.
Schedule Classes
Come up with a list of some great classes to offer in the clubhouse. Have instructors or volunteers within the community come in to teach fitness classes, dancing lessons, cooking classes, sewing lessons, or art classes. Make a schedule for the month so that the community knows what’s available and when. Some of these classes might be offered once a week while others might be a special occasion situation.
Entertain The Kids
If your community has a lot of families with young kids, try to consider some events that will work well for them. For example, you might offer storytelling on certain days. You can probably recruit people within your neighborhood to come in and read to the children. Another event that kids will love (along with many people of various ages) is a carnival/fair. Arrange to have some games set up and prizes they can win.
Get Out The Games And Crafts
People of all ages love games and crafts. Open up the clubhouse to different activities like a bingo night, a weekly chess match, bridge, or scrabble. If there are more kids in the community, consider offering some younger games too like Sorry and Candyland. Or instead of focusing on games, consider fun projects. You can recruit someone to come in and share how to make a certain type of craft. This doesn’t have to be expensive either since there are plenty of great budget-friendly ideas online. You may even want to enlist the community to see if anyone wants to volunteer to run a craft night.
Start A Club
It only seems right that a clubhouse host clubs. Some of these clubs can be game-related like a chess club for example. But, they can also be related to other things. One option to consider is a book club. This will allow the readers in your community to get together with one enough to discuss their shared interests.
Put On A Show
You may want to arrange a talent show, enlisting homeowners to show off their talents in front of the community. You can come up with some prizes for the winners too. Or, another option is to host a movie night. This might be something you set up inside the clubhouse, outside, or by the pool.
Arrange Speaking Events
There are a number of speaking events you might host at your clubhouse. You may want to invite public speakers to talk about topics of interest. You may even want to have various speakers come in for a day conference. Another option to consider is hosting poetry nights. This can be a way to get homeowners to participate by sharing their own creative works as well.
Have A Pool Party
What’s better than the pool in the thick of summer? Plan a fun event at the community pool. Just make sure to remind everyone of the safety rules. It’s a good idea to have extra people available to watch that everyone is staying safe in and around the pool too.
Arrange A Swap Event
You can invite homeowners to bring in the items they want to get rid of to swap with others in the community. It’s kind of like a yard sale, except free. Just remember to clarify that anything that doesn’t get taken needs to be cleared out of the clubhouse by the end of the event.
As you consider what events you’ll host this summer, remember to think carefully about your demographics, any liabilities, and what your budget will allow. The good news is, even if the budget is a little tighter there are plenty of things you can still do for the community. No matter what you plan, we hope you have a great season!
